| The
making of a collection: 10 year-fieldwork / the Arab Image Foundation.
10
years after the creation of the Arab Image Foundation, Zaatari talks
briefly about collecting photographic documents, as an artist's
performative practice, but also as a fieldwork that generates knowledge
around photographic iconography. Reflecting on his experience as a
founding member of the AIF, he will discuss the evolution of its
mission in relation to the projects he's been involved with.
The
Arab Image Foundation is an nonprofit organization established in
Beirut in 1997 to preserve and study photographs from the Middle East,
North Africa, and the Arab diaspora. AIF's photographic collection is
generated through artist and scholarly-led projects, and is made public
via exhibitions, publications, films and videos, and a free-access
online database.
