Talk 4: M. Nadim Karam, Atelier Hapsitus, Liban
Three talks followed by an open discussion, among architects working on
projects in various cultures, to talk about the extent to which
different cultural settings influences their designs.
Culture is a set of shared attitudes, values, goals and practices that
characterizes an institution, organization or group. The influence
works both ways: the built environment is capable of affecting people’s
behaviour, influencing urban access and rebranding communities and
cities.
The symposium is a social statement underlining the importance of cross
cultural gathering and sharing of knowledge. It will give examples of
urban and architectural projects where particular cultural settings had
a noticeable impact on design. The symposium will also explore
architecture’s contribution to enriching historical cultures with
modern settings.
